Michael Dewitt, age 45, of Seymour, faces multiple felonies from the alleged incident and is being held on a $1.25 million bond, Waterbury Police said.

The girl told police that she was playing at Fulton Park on Wednesday, Oct. 9, around 7 p.m. when a man, later identified as Dewitt, lured her into his truck, where he sexually assaulted her, authorities said. The girl fought her way free and ran to get help.

Police said she was not physically hurt.

Investigators later linked the attack to Dewitt. They tracked him down to New Haven, where police there were already looking for him for allegedly sexually assaulting another child, authorities said.

New Haven Police found his truck in a West Haven hotel parking lot, where he was arrested without incident.

He is charged with:

  • Illegal sexual contact with a child under 13
  • Sexual assault in the fourth-degree
  • Kidnapping in the third-degree
  • Employing a minor in an obscene performance
  • Aggravated sexual assault of a minor
  • Risk of injury to a minor

He also had an outstanding warrant in Waterbury from an unrelated incident, police said.

Investigators ask anyone with information on this case or any other alleged crimes involving Dewitt to contact Waterbury Police at 203-574-6941.
